About The Position

Southland Industries is seeking a General Foreman-Electrical to schedule, coordinate, supervise, provide leadership, and ensure the safety and productivity of a small work crew. This role may act as a management liaison and/or designated client contact. The ideal candidate will facilitate a safe work culture, ensure crew members adhere to safety standards, and conduct weekly "toolbox" talks. Responsibilities include participating in safety investigations, ensuring a clean and organized work area, orienting new crew members, assessing crew competency, assigning tasks, coordinating on-the-job training for apprentices, and mentoring apprentices. The General Foreman will set and maintain work standards, outline behavioral expectations, promote teamwork, and perform related craftwork. They will understand project plans and schedules, ensure daily and weekly activities meet production goals, identify and ensure availability of tools and materials, communicate needs and deficiencies to appropriate personnel, and translate work requirements into prioritized plans. The role involves reviewing and adjusting schedules, advising the superintendent of shortages, working with the crew to overcome challenges, resolving scheduling conflicts, ensuring completed work meets standards, recommending process improvements, ensuring adherence to job specifications and blueprints, inspecting completed work, preparing reports, maintaining a foreman's log, ensuring Task Hazard Analysis (THA) is performed daily, assisting the superintendent with production and progress reports, maintaining timekeeping records, documenting attendance, and recommending personnel actions. Additional assignments as requested/needed are also part of the role.

Requirements

Familiarity with other construction trades and crafts
Knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety regulations as well as company safety policies and procedures
Strong leadership and supervisory skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts
Ability to manage differences and diversity at the workplace
Strong planning and scheduling skills
Ability to handle administrative duties of position, including completion of required documents
Effective use of computers and other technology
High school degree or equivalent
5+ years’ experience as a qualified tradesperson
OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
An active Texas Journeyman Electrical license is required for individuals performing and supervising work in this field.
Employment is contingent upon active membership in the appropriate local trade union

Responsibilities

Facilitate a safe work culture and ensure crew members adhere to safety standards.

Ensure the work area is consistently clean, safe, and organized.
Orient new crew members and assess their competency and capability.
Assign individual and crew tasks, coordinate on-the-job training for apprentices, and facilitate mentoring.
Set and maintain work standards, outline behavioral expectations, and promote teamwork.
Perform related craftwork along with the crew.
Understand project plans and schedules, and ensure the crew’s daily and weekly activities meet production goals.
Identify and ensure the availability of all tools and materials required by the crew.
Identify needs and deficiencies in the plan/schedule and communicate them to the appropriate persons.
Translate general work requirements into a prioritized plan for individual tasks and assignments.
Review and adjust specific project activities and task schedules to meet established production schedules.
Advise superintendent of equipment and material shortages.
Work with the crew to overcome work challenges and resolve or report scheduling conflicts.
Ensure that completed work meets standards and inspect completed work.
Recommend work processes that will improve productivity and product quality.
Ensure the crew works to job specifications and follows the plans/blueprints.
Prepare reports as required and maintain foreman’s log or diary.
Ensure Task Hazard Analysis (THA) is performed and recorded daily.
Assist superintendent with determining project production and work progress, and completing quality reports.
Maintain accurate, daily timekeeping records and document late starts, early outs, and absences.
Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions and discipline.
Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.
