About The Position

The Bolting General Foreman oversees all bolting‐related mechanical activities on industrial projects, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high‑quality execution of work. This position requires advanced mechanical and torque‐tool expertise, proven leadership abilities, and strict adherence to site safety policies. The General Foreman leads crews, plans work scopes, manages tools and materials, and ensures all bolting tasks meet project standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong safety record and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Must pass all required drug tests, physicals, and background screenings.
  • Completion of all site‑required safety training.
  • Demonstrated experience in bolting, torque/tensioning, flange work, or mechanical maintenance.
  • Level II Bolting/Torque certification or equivalent industry credential (preferred or required based on employer).
  • Ability to read drawings, torque charts, and technical documentation.
  • Solid understanding of bolted joint assembly, gasket types, and flange management practices.
  • Proven leadership experience overseeing crews in industrial or construction environments.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 300’ with 100% tie‑off.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and work in elevated or confined spaces.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent tool‑handling skills.
  • Ability to visualize 3D structures and read drawings/isometrics.
  • Good vision (corrective lenses acceptable).
  • Ability to stand for long periods, kneel, stoop, crawl, and work in tight spaces.
  • Strong manual dexterity and physical capability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to lead by example.
  • Ability to work within precise limits and maintain high accuracy standards.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect worksites and identify hazards prior to starting work.
  • Plan bolting and mechanical work sequences to eliminate interference with other crafts.
  • Determine proper materials, tools, torque/tension values, and equipment needed per job specifications.
  • Perform and oversee the installation, removal, testing, and maintenance of bolted connections on exchangers, pressure vessels, piping, and related components.
  • Conduct pressure tests using water or gas to identify leaks.
  • Operate and train others on: Hand torque wrenches Hydraulic torque tools Pneumatic rad guns Hydraulic bolt tensioners Torque pump controls and pendants
  • Perform flange management, stud tensioning, bolt load verification, and gasket installation.
  • Interpret torque vs. tension charts and perform foot‑pound to PSI conversions.
  • Read and interpret drawings, isometrics, work packages, and technical specifications.
  • Follow all PPE, OSHA/ANSI, confined‑space, and site-specific work rules.
  • Work extended hours, including nights/weekends, when required.
  • Maintain strong communication, teamwork, and professionalism.
  • Mentor and support less‑experienced bolting technicians.
  • Lead and supervise daily crew activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of bolting work.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard assessments.
  • Enforce all safety standards, including PPE, fall protection, confined space, and site policies.
  • Assign tasks based on crew abilities, certifications, and project needs.
  • Ensure proper setup and availability of tools, torque equipment, and materials.
  • Monitor work quality, productivity, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Provide continuous coaching, technical guidance, and corrective action when needed.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and schedule impacts to supervision and project management.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, daily reports, equipment tracking, torque logs, and safety paperwork.
  • Ensure all bolting work meets quality control requirements and is completed within project deadlines.
  • Train and mentor junior crew members to build a strong, knowledgeable team.
