About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities to keep them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks and safety.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans, using a germicidal solution.
Clean bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, using germicidal solutions and appropriate tools.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
Dust or vacuum floors, starting from the back of the room and working towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and checking for cobwebs and debris.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, and cleaning trash cans.
Remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays.
Police outside eating areas in the food court.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
Visually inspect cleaned areas to ensure furniture placement is correct and make corrections as needed.
Perform daily cleaning tasks for hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, including high dusting.
Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions or referring them to the appropriate person.
Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
Work quietly and maintain a neat personal appearance.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping, waxing, extraction, bonneting) and auto scrubbing/buffing floors.
