About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient ability to communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash, push/pull using both hands and arms exerting 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching, handling, grasping and fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and remove fingerprints and smudges from surfaces. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down and sanitize bathroom fixtures including sinks and toilets. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, clean cans if necessary, and replace with clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors using appropriate techniques, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust.
  • Grounds care: Clean and check outside areas including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, and perform high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove and clean dirty trays, and police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting from the back of the room and working towards the door, cleaning under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement for corrections.
  • Daily tasks include cleaning halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, along with high dusting.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken items to the supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned work area, maintain a clean personal appearance, report incomplete work to the supervisor, and always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing).
