About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height (e.g., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges).
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trash cans) using a germicidal solution.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down in the following order: above and below the sink, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and proper germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
  • Check and refill soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty trash cans, replacing liners and wiping down cans if liquid is present.
  • Dust or vacuum floors, starting at the back of the room and working towards the door, using an “S” stroke to catch dust on the leading edge. Dust under all furniture and in restrooms.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum with a scraper, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, and high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Clean public area glass as necessary.
  • Police parking lots for trash.
  • Dust mop and spot mop main hallways in public common areas.
  • Clean glass in public common areas several times during the day.
  • Clean planters, inside and out, ensuring they are free from bird waste.
  • Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week.
  • Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and other foreign debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables.
  • Spot clean spills in the food court.
  • Empty and clean trash cans in the food court.
  • Remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays on a shelf for recycled use.
  • Police outside eating areas in the food court.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors as backing out of the room.
  • Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, along with high dusting.
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and cheerful manner, answering questions courteously or referring them to someone who can.
  • Report anything broken or out of order to the supervisor.
  • Work quietly and speak quietly, trying to reduce or eliminate noise.
  • Stay in the assigned work area unless requested to go elsewhere by the supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance while on the job.
  • Report to the supervisor if the work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Be courteous at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
