About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Sight, depth perception, hand-eye coordination for performing cleaning tasks, maintaining safety standards, and operating equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, dusting surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down the sink, toilet seat, outside of the toilet bowl, and the inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
  • Check and refill soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty trash cans, replacing liners and wiping down cans if liquid is present.
  • Dust mop or vacuum floors, starting at the back of the room and working towards the door, using an "S" stroke for dusting and ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
  • Clean outside areas multiple times a day, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum with a scraper, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters inside and out, checking for cobwebs and high dusting window areas at least twice a week, and checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, emptying and cleaning trash cans, removing dirty trays to the washroom, cleaning them using a tray power washer, stacking clean trays for recycled use, and policing outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily hall, lobby, stairs, water fountain, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting.
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and cheerful manner, answering questions courteously or referring them to someone who can.
  • Report anything broken or out of order to the supervisor.
  • Work quietly and speak quietly, reducing or eliminating noise.
  • Stay in the assigned work area unless requested to go elsewhere by the supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
