About The Position

The General Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities to keep them clean, sanitary, and orderly, and performs other tasks related to the assigned area. Duties include high dusting; sanitizing and spot cleaning; bathroom cleaning and replenishing dispensers; emptying trash; dusting, vacuuming, and sanitizing floors; maintaining grounds and public common areas; and cleaning the food court. The cleaner inspects completed rooms, corrects issues as needed, and reports broken or out-of-order items to a supervisor. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor or Account Manager, including floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor auto-scrubbing and buffing. The role includes customer service expectations: knock before entering an occupied room, treat customers courteously, answer questions or refer them to someone who can, work quietly, remain in the assigned area unless directed otherwise, maintain a neat appearance, and notify the supervisor if an assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic janitorial work, including methods, materials, and equipment.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices and the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals according to MSDS sheets.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate sufficiently with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain the physical condition needed to perform the assigned duties, including extended walking, standing, or sitting; lifting and carrying 1–30 pounds; pushing and pulling with 5–35 pounds of force; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching overhead, and handling and grasping equipment and tools.
Sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination sufficient to perform cleaning tasks, operate equipment, and maintain safety standards.

Responsibilities

High dust surfaces above shoulder height, including lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
Sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and spot clean fingerprints, smudges, and windows using appropriate solutions.
Clean bathrooms, including sinks and toilets, and check and refill soap and paper dispensers as needed.
Empty trash cans, wipe them if needed, and replace liners.
Dust or vacuum floors, including under furniture, and clean mopheads and dispose of collected dust.
Clean and inspect outside areas, including ash urns, trash cans, sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines, benches, vending machines, window ledges, public glass, and parking lots.
Maintain public common areas by dust mopping and spot mopping hallways, cleaning glass, maintaining planters, and checking corners and window areas for debris and cobwebs.
Clean and sanitize food-court tables, return chairs to their places, spot clean spills, empty trash, and clean and stack trays for reuse.
Sanitize floors using the appropriate germicidal solution, working under furniture and behind doors.
Inspect completed rooms, review cleaning steps, check furniture placement, and make corrections as needed.
Clean halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, and furniture, and perform wall spotting and high dusting daily.
Provide courteous customer service, work quietly, remain in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise, and maintain a neat personal appearance.
Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor and report incomplete assignments at the end of the shift.
Perform other assigned duties, which may include floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor auto-scrubbing and buffing.
