About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks for various areas including common areas, food courts, and grounds, as well as ensuring customer satisfaction and reporting any issues to supervisors.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate for the performance of assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks and equipment operation.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height, removing fingerprints and smudges.
Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, refilling as needed.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
Dust mop or vacuum floors using appropriate techniques and equipment.
Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
Clean and maintain public common areas, including dusting and spot mopping hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and window areas, and checking corners and edges for debris.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, and clean trays using a tray power washer.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, ensuring all areas under furniture and behind doors are cleaned.
Visually inspect rooms after cleaning to ensure furniture placement is correct and make corrections as needed.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls, including spotting and high dusting.
Engage in customer relations and service by being friendly, courteous, and helpful, answering questions, and reporting any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
Work quietly and stay within the assigned work area unless directed otherwise by a supervisor.
Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance while on the job.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing).
Adhere to safe work practices and understand the use of chemicals per MSDS sheets.
