About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks for various areas including high dusting, sanitizing surfaces, bathroom cleaning, trash removal, floor care, and grounds maintenance. The position also requires excellent customer relations and service, reporting any issues to a supervisor, and maintaining a neat personal appearance. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor or Account Manager, such as floor care (stripping, waxing, extraction, buffing) and carpet care.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs of equipment, supplies, or trash.
Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck.
Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl.
Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger while operating equipment and tools.
Ability to perform overhead reaching.
Adequate sight, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination, for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution.
Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, refilling as needed.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
Dust mop or vacuum floors, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and performing high dusting of window areas.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, police outside eating areas, and clean accumulated dirty trays.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, ensuring all areas are covered.
Inspect completed work, reviewing cleaning steps and visually checking furniture placement.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting.
Engage in customer relations and service, being friendly and courteous, answering questions, and reporting issues to the supervisor.
Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to supervisor if work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care (stripping, waxing, extraction, bonneting) and carpet care.
