About The Position

This position performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. The role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, trash, pushing/pulling with both hands and arms exerting 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching, handling, grasping and fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and remove fingerprints/smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, clean sinks, toilets, and check/refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and replace liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an 'S' stroke, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned. Vacuum floors working from back to front.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and high dusting window ledges and areas for dust/cobwebs.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, check for cobwebs and debris in corners and edges.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using a germicidal solution, working from the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken items to a supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned area, maintain a clean appearance, and report incomplete work to a supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
