About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Requires depth perception, hand-eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.
Requires sight in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height (lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges) in a counter-clockwise direction.
Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trashcans) in a counter-clockwise direction. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
Bathroom Cleaning: Using germicidal solution, clean and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, outside of toilet bowls, and inside of toilet bowls. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and replace with clean liners.
Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an “S” stroke, cleaning under furniture and in restrooms. Vacuum floors starting from the back and working towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are covered.
Grounds Care: Clean and check outside areas, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass, planters (inside and out), and perform high dusting for dust and cobwebs at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges for debris.
Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use. Police outside eating areas.
Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement for corrections.
Daily Tasks: Hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are performed daily.
Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work quietly and speak softly. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report incomplete work assignments to the supervisor. Always be courteous.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
