About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, trash, pushing/pulling using both hands and arms exerting 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching, handling, grasping and fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in the operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, and the outside of toilet bowls using a germicidal solution. Clean the inside of toilet bowls with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, clean cans if liquid is present, and replace with clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an 'S' stroke, ensuring all furniture and restroom areas are covered. Clean the mophead and dispose of dust. Vacuum floors starting from the back of the room, working towards the door, ensuring all furniture is covered.
  • Grounds Care: Clean and check outside areas multiple times daily, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass multiple times daily. Clean planters inside and out. Perform high dusting for dust and cobwebs in window areas at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges for debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily Tasks: Hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are to be done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to a supervisor. Report broken items to a supervisor. Work quietly and stay in the assigned work area. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing).
