About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: Walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, Operating powered and non-powered equipment, Lifting/carrying 1 – 30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash, Push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force, Climbing stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes, Bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck throughout shift, Kneeling/crouching/crawling while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves, Reaching, handling, grasping and fingering while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment. Overhead reaching required throughout shift.
  • Sight – in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards. Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and spot clean windows and walls.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, and check/refill dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Empty, clean, and reline trash cans, replacing liners as needed.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors using appropriate techniques and equipment, ensuring all areas are covered.
  • Grounds care: Clean and check outside areas including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and parking lots, spot cleaning spills, wiping benches and vending machines, and high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, planters, and perform high dusting of window areas.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, sanitize tables, spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, and clean accumulated dirty trays.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting from the back of the room and working towards the exit.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement for corrections.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answer questions, report issues to supervisors, maintain a neat appearance, and stay in the assigned work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
