General Accounting Intern
About The Position
Group 1 Automotive, Inc. is seeking an Accounting Intern to join their Corporate Accounting team. This internship offers hands-on experience in accounting and finance within a large, publicly traded organization. The Accounting Department is responsible for financial reporting, general accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial analysis. The intern will work alongside experienced professionals, gaining practical technical, analytical, and professional skills while applying classroom knowledge to real-world accounting activities. This role provides exposure to potential career paths within corporate accounting and automotive retail.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Preferred minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take on new responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities
- Assist with general accounting processes and day-to-day accounting activities
- Participate in month-end financial close activities
- Assist with account reconciliations and research discrepancies as needed
- Support financial analysis and reporting activities
- Assist with the preparation and review of financial information
- Help maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
- Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, and other cross-functional teams to support accuracy and compliance
- Analyze financial data and assist with identifying trends or variances
- Conduct research and assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives
- Perform other accounting-related responsibilities as assigned
