About The Position

The Gauge Technician is responsible for ensuring that all gauges, measuring devices, and inspection tools used within the CNC machine shop are properly calibrated, certified, and maintained. This role supports accurate production processes and ensures compliance with internal and external quality standards. It is an entry‑level to intermediate position designed for individuals looking to develop their skills in precision measurement, calibration, and inspection processes within a CNC machining environment. Working under direct supervision, this role provides hands‑on experience with metrology equipment, gauge control, and shop‑floor quality support. It offers opportunities for growth into more advanced inspection or quality roles. This position adheres to core competencies including communication, teamwork, achieving results, continuous improvement, and sound judgment.

Requirements

  • Post‑secondary education in a technical field, skilled trade, machining, metrology, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with GD&T and the proper use of inspection and measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, etc.).
  • Basic computer proficiency, including data entry into calibration or quality tracking systems.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and follow written or verbal instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Ability to work safely in a CNC machining environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Aerospace and/or manufacturing experience
  • Previous work experience in a gauge lab, calibration role, or CNC manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality systems.
  • Knowledge of metrology principles, measurement system analysis (MSA), or calibration standards.
  • Ability to write simple reports, calibration records, and correspondence.
  • Strong math skills including fractions, decimals, trigonometry, and unit conversions.
  • Experience using digital calibration systems or gauge‑tracking software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot measurement discrepancies and identify root causes.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, certify, and maintain gauges and measuring instruments according to established procedures and calibration schedules.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and up‑to‑date gauge control records, logs, and certificates.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T symbols to ensure proper gauge usage.
  • Set up, verify, and troubleshoot inspection equipment as required to support production and quality teams.
  • Perform incoming, in‑process, and final inspection tasks as assigned.
  • Identify out‑of‑tolerance conditions and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Maintain the work area, tools, and equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Escalate issues related to gauge failures, unsafe conditions, or quality risks.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, including the proper use of PPE and reporting hazards or equipment defects.
