Gate Attendant/Scale Operator

About The Position

A Gate Attendant/Scale Operator monitors and records waste volumes entering a post-collection site and collects appropriate usage fees from customers. The role determines the contents of incoming material to ensure correct billing, accepts or rejects loads, handles customer payments and receipts, balances and deposits daily receipts, and documents incoming waste using truck scales and computer systems. The attendant also coordinates special loads with operations, answers calls, keeps the work area clean, and performs other assigned duties.

Requirements

Experience in a previous position involving cash handling and balancing cash and/or receipts.
Experience with computers and various software programs.

Responsibilities

Determine the contents of materials entering the facility to bill customers correctly.
Accept or reject waste loads based on their contents and suggest alternatives based on special-waste requirements, waste type, and/or local market training.
Receive customer payments and provide receipts.
Balance daily receipts to ensure accurate recordkeeping and billing, and deposit daily receipts into the safe depository.
Document waste entering the facility using truck scales and computer systems, and track total incoming waste.
Notify operations of special waste or other incoming special loads; direct or dispatch loads as needed; process required paperwork and perform other duties needed to process special loads.
Answer the telephone and provide general information to callers.
Maintain the cleanliness of the work area.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
