About The Position

We are seeking a Gastroenterologist for a Locum Tenens position in Fredericksburg, VA. This is an outpatient, clinical-only role covering a supplemental need. The coverage period is ongoing starting September 1, 2026. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The agency will cover travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance. The facility utilizes the Epic EMR system and has a support staff including 1 RN, 1 MA, 1 PA/NP, and 1 Office Staff. The hospital is stroke certified.

Requirements

• Board Certified (BC)
• Licensed in VA
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• Fellowship required
• Hospital privileges required (30-90 day credentialing timeline)
• Proficiency in Upper GI endoscopy (W/biopsy, W/foreign body removal, W/fulguration of bleeder (cautery vs. laser), W/injection of varices)
• Proficiency in ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) (Diagnostic, Therapeutic, W/PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy))
• Proficiency in Esophageal dilatation/manometry
• Proficiency in Esophageal manometry interpretation
• Proficiency in Small Bowel biopsy
• Proficiency in Lower GI endoscopy
• Proficiency in Sigmoidoscopy (Flexible, Rigid)
• Proficiency in Colonoscopy (W/biopsy, W/excision of polyp)
• Proficiency in Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
• Proficiency in Liver biopsy
• Proficiency in Insertion/management of Sengstaken/Blakemore tube

Responsibilities

• Provide outpatient gastroenterology clinical services.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
• Collaborate with support staff including RNs, MAs, and PA/NPs.
• Supervise advanced practice providers as needed.
• Provide resident and/or teaching supervision.
• Maintain accurate patient records within the Epic EMR system.
• Ensure high-quality patient care in an outpatient setting.
