About The Position

The Gas Operations Manager reports directly to the Area Director of Disposal Operations and indirectly to the Corporate Director Gas Operations. The role manages landfill gas collection and control system (GCCS) operations, capital budget planning and distribution, and regulatory compliance, while providing oversight and support to Area landfill Gas Technicians and Gas Operations Supervisors.

The position plans and manages GCCS capital projects, supports engineering design and budget decisions, oversees company and contractor resources, and manages asset development, compliance activities, program optimization, and site and personnel reviews within a defined geographic area. It coordinates with management and stakeholders to advance GCCS and air-quality objectives, implements company-wide training and policies, supports resolution of regulatory matters, and provides operational and engineering support for landfill gas energy recovery projects.

Requirements

• Accredited associate degree from a vocational school, or a high school diploma plus two additional years of relevant work experience.
• At least 10 years of relevant engineering and/or construction work experience specializing in GCCS design, construction, and/or operations, in addition to the education requirement.
• Valid and unrestricted driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and manage GCCS design, construction, and operations capital projects within a defined geographic area.
• Implement standards for environmental protection and landfill gas control and management under senior management direction.
• Participate in GCCS engineering design strategy and approval of operating and capital budgets; coordinate procurement and distribution of landfill gas conveyance equipment and materials.
• Direct and manage internal and external company resources, including consultants and contractors.
• Manage regional asset development, including GCCS installation and modifications, compliance monitoring, testing and reporting, program development and changes, LFG program optimization, and site and personnel reviews.
• Communicate with Area and Corporate management about significant development projects and compliance with company-wide GCCS and air-quality programs.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to discuss projects and programs that optimize GCCS operations, protect the environment, and reduce field compliance costs.
• Implement company-wide training programs, directives, policies, and procedures for GCCS design, construction, operations, and maintenance within the assigned area.
• Support Air Program, Legal, and Environmental Protection managers in responding to and resolving regulatory issues related to LFG and GCCS operations.
• Coordinate energy recovery projects, which may include wellfield operations and coordination with plant administrators, managers, and supervisors.
• Provide engineering and operational support to ensure energy recovery project operations do not adversely affect existing landfill gas control devices.
• Provide oversight and support to Area landfill Gas Technicians and Gas Operations Supervisors.
