About The Position

This position performs technical duties in the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas services for residential customers. The work consists of related technical duties. The need to respond to potentially dangerous emergencies contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to install, repair, and maintain gas services to customers. Successful performance helps ensure the safe, effective and efficient operation of the natural gas utility system.

Requirements

Knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas distribution systems.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety rules and regulations.
Knowledge of natural gas appliances.
Knowledge of the principles and practices related to the handling of natural gas emergencies.
Knowledge of meters and regulators.
Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, city codes, and department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in the calibration and operation of gas detection equipment.
Skill in problem solving.
Skill in prioritizing and planning.
Skill in interpersonal relations.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Responsibilities

Responds to emergencies involving damage to gas facilities, gas mains, service lines, regulator stations, and gas fires.
Locates and repairs leaks; repairs cut service lines.
Repairs and maintains meter sets; sets meters for new construction and existing homes; ensures correct pressure settings.
Identifies and repairs corrosion damage.
Completes sketches and reports.
Stocks and maintains service truck.
Calibrates and employs gas detection sensors.
Responds to after-hours emergencies.
Meets with customers to discuss complaints of pressure problems, gas outages, etc. and makes necessary adjustments and repairs.
Performs related duties.
