About The Position

The Garnishments Specialist manages the full lifecycle of employee garnishments and court-ordered financial obligations, ensuring accurate processing, strict regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration with payroll, accounting, and external stakeholders. This role offers significant exposure within a large corporate payroll environment and the opportunity to contribute to continuous process improvement.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working with garnishments, including wage attachments, bank levies, and other court-ordered financial obligations.
  • Hands-on experience in payroll or accounting environments with responsibility for garnishment processing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for managing data, performing calculations, and generating reports.
  • Ability to interpret and apply garnishment laws, regulations, and court orders accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate records and meet strict deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with creditors, attorneys, employees, and internal teams in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with payroll and accounting teams to ensure accurate withholdings and remittances.
  • Commitment to ethical practices, confidentiality, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Vista ViewPoint for payroll or garnishment-related activities.
  • Experience working with UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) systems or similar HR/payroll platforms.
  • Background in accounting or payroll operations within a corporate environment.
  • Experience contributing to process improvements or system enhancements related to payroll or garnishments.
  • Interest in ongoing professional development and staying current with changes in garnishment laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Process and manage garnishment orders, including wage attachments, bank levies, and other court-ordered financial obligations, in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review garnishment documentation for completeness and accuracy, and ensure proper setup and maintenance within payroll systems.
  • Interact professionally with creditors, attorneys, and employees to gather necessary documentation, clarify requirements, and resolve discrepancies or issues related to garnishments.
  • Collaborate closely with payroll and accounting teams to ensure correct garnishment withholdings and remittances in alignment with pay cycles and accounting procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all garnishment activities, including calculations, changes, and correspondence, to support audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Prepare and deliver reports on garnishment activities to meet regulatory requirements and internal reporting needs.
  • Monitor changes in garnishment laws and regulations, interpret their impact on existing processes, and update procedures to maintain ongoing compliance.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance in garnishment processing.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding garnishment deductions, balances, and related matters with clarity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Support the broader payroll team as needed during peak periods, special projects, or system updates related to garnishment processing.
