About The Position

The Garden Shop Assistant supports customers and the daily operation of Stew Leonard’s seasonal outdoor garden shop. The role involves helping customers with purchases and questions, offering guidance about plants, gardening tools, and landscaping materials, and keeping merchandise and displays organized, stocked, and properly signed. The assistant will learn the seasonality of garden shop products, including spring, fall, and Christmas items, and provide quality customer service, including handling customer complaints. Knowledge of plants is helpful but not required. The season is expected to end on or about December 24, 2026.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Safely operate a forklift and other equipment used in the day-to-day operation of the garden shop.
• Demonstrate safe use of box cutters, skid sheers, and other hand tools.
• Demonstrate knowledge of plants and garden equipment.
• Have strong customer service skills.
• Have good written and oral communication skills.
• Have good organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
• Demonstrate an excellent work ethic, interpersonal skills, honesty, flexibility, and problem-solving ability.
• Be willing to lead by example.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of plants is a plus but is not required.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and assist with inquiries and purchases.
• Provide advice on plants, gardening tools, and landscaping materials.
• Maintain a clean and organized environment.
• Unpack and stock merchandise on shelves and displays.
• Learn the seasonality of Garden Shop products, including spring, fall, and Christmas products.
• Keep displays full and merchandised, with appropriate signage.
• Interact with customers, answer inquiries, and handle complaints effectively.
• Collaborate with team members and offer assistance where needed.
• Take on other projects as needed.
