About The Position

Astrolab is The Lunar Operations Company, designing and building systems and hardware for the lunar economy, including rovers, power, and data networks for sustained operations on the Moon. The company develops tools used to build, test, and operate its extraterrestrial rovers. The Full Stack Developer will develop a wide range of software, from mission operations software and engineering tools to tooling that supports software development, software testing, and hardware testing. The role supports the planning, design, development, deployment, maintenance, and integration of Astrolab’s in-house software tools. Astrolab is seeking experienced software developers with significant hands-on experience designing, architecting, developing, and testing code with little to no assistance from large language models; it is not currently interested in AI-developed software.

  • Experience developing software for safety-critical medical applications.
  • Experience with database back ends for efficient handling of large data volumes and relationships, together with web-based front ends for searching, organizing, and displaying engineering information.
  • Experience implementing software that meets NIST 800-171 and NIST 800-53 security specifications.
  • Experience with static analysis, dynamic memory analysis, fuzz testing, penetration testing, and other methods for detecting potential security defects.
  • Experience with NASA or DoD software safety standards and software certification processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop software for mission operations, engineering tasks, internal monitoring, and other applications.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to define software needs and produce robust design criteria and use cases.
  • Integrate and test software applications to ensure reliability, functionality, and performance.
  • Develop robust, high-performance back-end tooling for complicated workflows and large volumes of data.
  • Develop intuitive web-based and desktop front-end interfaces that meet users’ needs.
  • Develop automated pipelines for regression testing, pre-deployment verification and validation, deployment, and patching.
  • Ensure software meets applicable security standards and data-protection needs.
