About The Position

Tether is hiring a Frontend Desktop Engineer to develop and maintain Keet Desktop, its cross-platform peer-to-peer communications application. The app is built with React and runs on the Pear runtime, an open-source P2P development platform that enables applications to be deployed directly from developers to users without traditional server infrastructure. Tether’s P2P technology uses Node.js-based systems to support connections and data replication. Keet demonstrates this technology through messaging, file sharing, and collaborative features while maintaining users’ sovereignty over their personal data.

The role covers UI/UX implementation and performance optimization, contributing to the development of decentralized communication. The successful candidate will work with a remote, globally distributed team.

Requirements

• Proven experience with React or Preact and modern JavaScript or TypeScript in production-scale applications.
• Strong competency in state management, such as Redux, Redux Toolkit, Zustand, or similar.
• Ability to write modular, maintainable, well-tested code.
• Solid skills in testing and debugging complex frontend applications.
• Deep interest in or experience with P2P technologies or distributed systems.
• Comfort working in a remote, globally distributed team and good communication skills.
• Excellent English communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with desktop application development using Electron, Tauri, or similar runtimes.
• Familiarity with video/audio APIs, such as WebRTC and media streams, and real-time communication.
• Demonstrated ability to optimize UI performance, including rendering and memory management.
• Experience building cross-platform applications for macOS, Windows, Linux, or other platforms.
• Contributions to open-source projects, especially in P2P or decentralized technology.
