About The Position

Navan is an all-in-one travel, corporate card, and expense management solution. The Frontend Architect shapes Navan’s frontend infrastructure and developer experience across the organization. The role architects and maintains a frontend platform that enables more than 20 engineering teams to deploy independently while maintaining high quality standards. It builds shared libraries, developer tooling, and infrastructure, evolves the platform for human and AI-assisted development, and leads performance and reliability initiatives. The role designs and evolves a React and Angular micro-frontend platform using Module Federation; creates shared NPM packages and organization-wide patterns; and drives architectural governance and cross-functional alignment. It develops tools and automation, AI-assisted workflows, technical documentation, and mentoring practices. It also structures repositories, component libraries, documentation, and development environments to support dependable work by engineers and coding agents. The Frontend Architect partners with product, AI platform, and Security teams on reusable UI patterns for AI-powered experiences, reliable testing and validation, safe AI-assisted development, and human review boundaries. The role pilots workflows, measures their outcomes, and turns successful approaches into supported standards. It also leads bundle-size and cost optimization, framework migrations for critical security fixes, and performance monitoring and optimization to reduce latency and improve load times.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in frontend software development.
  • At least 3 years of experience in frontend architecture with demonstrated organization-wide impact.
  • Deep expertise with React and TypeScript.
  • Experience with micro-frontend architectures, such as Module Federation, single-spa, Web Components, or similar approaches.
  • Strong knowledge of build tooling such as Webpack, Vite, or Rollup, and monorepo management.
  • Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies and establishing testing standards across teams, including component testing, browser automation, visual regression checks, and CI validation.
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding tools to deliver production changes, evaluate generated code, design effective validation, and identify where human review is necessary.
  • Ability to demonstrate improvements in engineering delivery, quality, or reliability from AI-assisted workflows and drive adoption across teams.
  • Practical understanding of scoped tool access, secrets, sensitive data, and accountability for AI-generated changes, in partnership with Security and AI platform teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members and drive consensus across multiple teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Angular.
  • Experience with observability platforms.
  • Experience with CDN optimization.
  • Experience with Next.js or other meta-frameworks.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with AWS.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve the micro-frontend platform using Module Federation in React and Angular.
  • Create and maintain shared NPM packages that enforce consistency and patterns across the organization.
  • Drive architectural governance, review processes, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Create developer tools and automation to streamline workflows and improve engineering productivity.
  • Build repeatable AI-assisted workflows for frontend implementation, browser testing, debugging, framework migrations, and delivery from task specification to validated pull request.
  • Author technical documentation and mentor engineers through code reviews.
  • Structure repositories, component libraries, documentation, and development environments to support reliable work by engineers and coding agents.
  • Establish clear component contracts, runnable examples, predictable build and test commands, and reusable skills and integrations that provide relevant company context and actionable validation feedback.
  • Partner with product and AI platform teams to establish shared UI patterns for AI-powered experiences, including streaming responses, progress visibility, cancellation, error recovery, and user approval of consequential actions.
  • Design reusable components with clear contracts to reduce integration time across teams.
  • Establish reliable validation through component tests, browser automation, visual regression checks, and CI gates; define validation and human-review requirements for AI-generated changes.
  • Pilot new workflows with engineering teams, measure delivery time, escaped defects, reliability, and AI usage cost, and turn successful approaches into supported company standards.
  • Verify that tools, integrations, and workflows operate successfully in the teams and environments where they are adopted.
  • Partner with Security and the AI platform team to establish scoped tool access, safe handling of secrets and sensitive data, and accountability for agent-generated changes.
  • Define appropriate human review and approval boundaries for frontend workflows.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce bundle size and costs.
  • Spearhead framework migrations that deliver critical security fixes.
  • Implement performance monitoring and optimization strategies to reduce latency and improve load times.
