The Front Office Assistant performs a variety of clerical duties and front office operations in support of patient care activities, ensuring even patient flow and continuous communication within the department, referring physician offices, and organization staff. This role involves courteous interaction with patients, their family members or surrogate decision makers, and the public according to established standards. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, answering telephones, potentially collecting copays, closing the cash drawer, and preparing month-end deposits. The assistant collects initial demographic and clinical patient information, accurately entering it into the medical record and compiling/preparing charts. They assist with patient scheduling, including confirmations, cancellations, and rescheduling, and ensure prompt communication of schedule changes. Maintaining accurate information and utilizing various software for scheduling, charge entry, document scanning, and patient data entry is crucial. The role also ensures patient charts have all required paperwork before procedures and may order patient tests as directed by medical staff. The position may require working in various departments and assisting clinical staff with patients and family members, always maintaining patient confidentiality. Participation in continuous quality improvement and performing other assigned duties are also part of the role.
