About The Position

The Front Desk Receptionist in the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office serves as the first point of contact for international students, visiting scholars, and campus partners. This role is central to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment while ensuring the smooth daily operation of the office. The receptionist greets visitors, answers inquiries in person, by phone, and via email, and directs individuals to appropriate staff or resources. They provide general information about immigration processes, campus services, and office procedures, while maintaining awareness of when to refer more complex questions to advisors. Because the audience is often navigating unfamiliar systems, the receptionist must communicate clearly, patiently, and with cultural sensitivity. Administrative responsibilities include assisting international advisors in maintaining records, handling incoming and outgoing documents, and supporting data entry in student information systems. This position also assists with beginning of semester check-ins and registrations in the SEVIS system as a Designated School Official (DSO). Confidentiality and accuracy are essential, as the role involves handling sensitive personal and immigration-related information. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment are critical. Proficiency with office software, customer service experience, and cross-cultural communication skills are highly valued. Overall, the Front Desk Receptionist plays a key role in shaping the office’s service experience, helping international students and scholars feel supported, informed, and connected from their very first interaction.
