About The Position

Greets and interviews patients at the intake area, obtaining and updating demographic and insurance information while maintaining a high level of privacy and security. Ensures that information is released only to approved individuals. Answers phones and addresses questions from patients, doctor's offices, and families, directing calls to appropriate departments as needed. Schedules and verifies patient appointments, and communicates effectively with other departments regarding their patients. Verifies all current ID, insurance cards, and necessary paperwork are in the EMR and updated when registering patients for their date of service. Confirms ordering information with the patient and referral, and checks for proper authorization, ensuring all forms/waivers are complete with appropriate signatures. Collects and updates co-payments, issues receipts, and follows workflows for voiding and/or refunding payments. Maintains a 2% error rate for report and billing information. Prints medical records upon request. Ensures SDMI Core Values are utilized in handling everyday concerns or issues with patients or staff. Requires strong customer service skills and the ability to maintain a positive team atmosphere. Must be adaptable to change, able to take initiative in identifying issues, and communicate effectively with their direct supervisor, the Assistant Office Manager, and contact the Office Manager as needed. May assist other departments and complete all assigned trainings prior to their due date. May perform other job-related duties for the efficient operation of SDMI. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Medical and computer experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • One (1) year of experience in admissions in a hospital or medical office setting.
  • Knowledge of office theories and principles.
  • Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology.
  • Knowledge of insurance carriers and reimbursements.
  • Ability to complete or direct the completion of an occurrence report within 24 hours of an event/occurrence/risk.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all personnel.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to use equipment effectively, efficiently, and safely.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
  • Ability to use computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment such as phones, copiers, and facsimiles.
  • Typing speed of 45 words per minute.
  • 10-key proficiency.
  • Skill in organizing time to accommodate changes in workload and assignments.
  • Skill to pay attention to details and accuracy.
  • Ability to respond positively to changes in assignments and priorities.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member.
  • Ability to identify hazardous material in the immediate work area.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow all SDMI safety and evacuation guidelines, policies & procedures.
  • Willingness to participate in cross-training activities.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for updating knowledge of current SDMI department policies and procedures, protocol and practices.
  • Demonstrates punctuality and a satisfactory attendance record.
  • Ability to take full responsibility for all functions within the job description and ensure completion before leaving at the end of the shift.
  • Ability to communicate effectively when follow-up is needed.
  • May be required to work at other facilities if needed.
