About The Position

The Freshman Volleyball Coach is responsible for developing and promoting the volleyball program at Marion High School. This role involves assisting with daily practices, maintaining equipment and facilities, supervising students, and ensuring athlete eligibility and adherence to school and athletic association rules. The coach will work closely with the Activities Director, High School Principal, and Head Varsity Coach to foster a positive and competitive team environment.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Coaching Endorsement or Coaching Authorization as mandated by the Iowa Department of Education, Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, Iowa High School Athletic Association, and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in organizing, conducting, and evaluating daily practices.
  • Maintain, inventory, and perform periodic safety checks of equipment, supplies, and facilities.
  • Assist in supervising locker rooms and facilities until all students leave.
  • Assure necessary medical attention for participants.
  • Attend all Varsity games, matches, and/or meets when not scouting (when applicable).
  • Attend all required Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and/or Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) meetings.
  • Submit all required IHSAA/IGHSAU paperwork.
  • Scout, when directed by the Head Varsity Coach.
  • Assist the Booster Club with needs specific to the volleyball activity.
  • Attend all meetings called by the Head Coach.
  • Check academic progress and eligibility of participants according to Marion Independent Schools, the IHSAA and/or IGHSAU rules and regulations.
  • Establish and enforce all regulations of Marion Independent Schools, the IHSAA and/or the IGHSAU, including informing participants of these policies (Good Conduct, transportation regulations, etc.).
  • Promote and remain loyal to the philosophies of the Head Coach.
  • Provide feedback and communicate with the Head Coach and/or Activities Director about individual and team issues.
  • Conduct self in a sportsmanlike manner while modeling and promoting the high ideals of sportsmanship with colleagues and the team.
  • Model the highest level of integrity and ethical behavior.
  • Know the rules of the sport.
  • Attend clinics and read literature to stay abreast of changes in the activity.
  • Supply the Activities Director with the forms, team information, summary, statistics, and school records.
  • Communicate with the administration, faculty, Activities Director, parents, students, and staff members.
  • Work hard, be positive, and be on time.
