FPGA Implementation Engineer (JR)

Cirrus Logic•Austin, TX

About The Position

Cirrus Logic is hiring an FPGA Implementation Engineer for its mixed-signal audio development team. The role performs synthesis of ASIC designs onto FPGA platforms and ensures design quality. The engineer will work on complex FPGA prototyping systems and help improve prototyping methodology across the division. The FPGA platforms support software development and hardware-software pre-silicon validation by internal groups.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field.
  • At least 3 years of directly related experience.
  • Experience using FPGAs and understanding of how FPGA design differs from ASIC design.
  • Proficiency operating simulation and modeling equipment, including design tools.
  • Knowledge of Verilog, System Verilog, and digital design concepts.
  • Knowledge of verification and validation techniques and methodologies, including strong debugging skills.
  • Familiarity with common on-chip bus protocols such as AMBA (AXI, AHB, APB) and communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, I2S, and UART.
  • Experience with scripting for hardware development using Python or Tcl.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in FPGA flows, including synthesis, place and route, and timing closure, with emphasis on Synopsys Synplify and Xilinx Vivado.
  • Understanding of common FPGA primitives such as memories, I/O pads, BUFG, and MMCMs.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming in Python.
  • Experience with floorplanning and advanced timing closure techniques.
  • Familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and logic analyzers.
  • Solid documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work to tight and variable time scales.

Responsibilities

  • Help deliver FPGA platforms to internal groups for software development and hardware-software pre-silicon validation.
  • Port ASIC-specific code and models into FPGA-friendly models.
  • Define and run functional tests to prove FPGA builds before distribution.
  • Perform FPGA synthesis, implementation, and static timing analysis for complex ASIC designs.
  • Develop and maintain smoke tests to ensure deliverable quality across revisions.
  • Test digital chip RTL from a user perspective on FPGA platforms.
  • Design and implement equivalent analog models for the final ASIC analog front end.
  • Introduce model-based design methods using Simulink or Matlab frameworks and representations.
