About The Position

True Anomaly is seeking an innovative FPGA Engineering Manager to lead a small, agile team designing, developing, testing, and deploying high-speed digital and FPGA-based solutions for spacecraft systems. The manager will lead FPGA engineers and ensure delivery of high-reliability, radiation-tolerant designs that meet aerospace and defense standards. Reporting to the Director of Avionics, this role combines technical contribution with people management. The role calls for expertise in high-speed digital interfaces and spacecraft FPGA design and validation, supported by sound engineering practices and technical judgment. The manager will collaborate with electrical engineering, embedded and flight software, systems, avionics, and test teams. Responsibilities include building design and verification pipelines, performing technical trades, and delivering products on schedule. The position follows a hybrid work environment, with some work required on site. Successful candidates will be located near Centennial or Long Beach, California. Applicants must meet U.S. Government space technology export authorization requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of professional FPGA development experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with spacecraft systems.
  • Previous experience as a technical team lead.
  • Deep expertise with VHDL/Verilog, simulation tools, timing analysis, and FPGA synthesis flows.
  • Familiarity with Zynq Ultrascale+, ProASIC 3, PolarFire, SmartFusion 2, Artix7, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, and SpaceWire.
  • Familiarity with fault-tolerant or redundant design methods, such as A/B failover and triple modular redundancy.
  • Understanding of radiation effects on digital logic and mitigation strategies.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with procedural programming languages such as C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience debugging system-level interactions in a HIL/SIL environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build, manage, and mentor an FPGA engineering team for spacecraft devices.
  • Drive the design of FPGAs, SoCs, and SoMs and integrate those designs into end-item products.
  • Define FPGA development roadmaps aligned with spacecraft system needs.
  • Own end-to-end FPGA design activities, including requirements capture, architecture, functional block definition, simulation, synthesis, timing closure, verification, and hardware integration.
  • Develop full systems solutions, including memory interfaces, high-speed buses, clock domains, and signal integrity analyses.
  • Manage and communicate product development status and issues across the product development life cycle through reviews and demonstrations.
  • Drive adherence to radiation-hardening and defense and aerospace FPGA development standards.
  • Collaborate with systems, software, avionics, and test teams to ensure FPGA functionality integrates seamlessly with the spacecraft.
  • Establish best practices for design reviews, configuration management, and verification methodologies.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, and technical risk within the FPGA development domain.
