About The Position

True Anomaly is seeking an FPGA Engineering Manager to lead a small, agile team designing, developing, testing, and deploying high-speed digital and FPGA-based solutions for spacecraft systems. The manager will oversee FPGA engineers and deliver high-reliability, radiation-tolerant designs that meet aerospace and defense standards. The position combines technical contribution with people management and reports to the Director of Avionics. The role works closely with electrical engineering and embedded and flight software teams to develop robust spacecraft systems. It includes building design and verification pipelines, performing technical trades, and ensuring on-time product delivery. Successful candidates will bring expertise in high-speed digital interfaces and spacecraft FPGA design and validation, along with sound technical judgment and knowledge of development best practices. Candidates must be located near Centennial or Long Beach, California. The work environment is hybrid, with some work required onsite. The position remains open until filled. U.S. government space technology export-control requirements apply: candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of professional FPGA development experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with spacecraft systems.
  • Previous experience as a technical team lead.
  • Deep expertise with VHDL/Verilog, simulation tools, timing analysis, and FPGA synthesis flows.
  • Familiarity with Zynq Ultrascale+, ProASIC 3, PolarFire, SmartFusion 2, Artix7, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, and SpaceWire.
  • Familiarity with fault-tolerant and redundant design methods, such as A/B failover and triple modular redundancy.
  • Understanding of radiation effects on digital logic and mitigation strategies.
  • Must meet applicable U.S. government space technology export-control eligibility requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with analog and digital electrical design practices.
  • Familiarity with lab debug tools such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Familiarity with procedural programming languages such as C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience debugging system-level interactions in a HIL/SIL environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build, manage, and mentor an FPGA engineering team for spacecraft devices.
  • Drive the design of FPGAs, SoCs, and SoMs and integrate those designs into end-item products.
  • Define FPGA development roadmaps aligned with spacecraft system needs.
  • Own end-to-end FPGA design activities, including requirements capture, architecture, functional block definition, simulation, synthesis, timing closure, verification, and hardware integration.
  • Develop full-system solutions, including memory interfaces, high-speed buses, clock domains, and signal-integrity analyses.
  • Manage and communicate product-development status and issues across the product development life cycle through reviews and demonstrations.
  • Drive adherence to radiation-hardening and defense and aerospace FPGA development standards.
  • Collaborate with systems, software, avionics, and test teams to ensure FPGA functionality integrates with the spacecraft.
  • Establish best practices in design reviews, configuration management, and verification methodologies.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, and technical risk within the FPGA development domain.

Benefits

  • Company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, with HSA/HRA options.
  • Flexible Time Off for exempt employees or accrued PTO of up to 25 days for non-exempt employees.
  • 12 paid holidays.
  • Parental leave.
  • Sick leave.
