About The Position

BayCare Medical Group is seeking an Advanced Endoscopist to join a growing team of four Gastroenterologists at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Florida. This role focuses on expanding GI services and advancing endoscopic capabilities, including Endoscopic Ultrasound. The Gastroenterology Fellowship Program Director will lead, administer, organize, and continuously improve the ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship Program. Responsibilities include ensuring ACGME compliance, developing a rigorous training environment, supporting fellow recruitment and development, and promoting excellence in patient care, education, quality, safety, research, and scholarly activity. The director will collaborate with institutional leadership, faculty, fellows, and multidisciplinary teams to provide a comprehensive educational experience preparing trainees for independent practice and board certification. The position is 70% clinical and 30% administrative, with the first class of Fellows expected in 2028.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of Internal Medicine Residency and ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship (or equivalent training).
  • Ability to obtain FL medical license.
  • Board Certified in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in Gastroenterology following fellowship training.
  • Prior leadership experience in an academic medical center, teaching hospital, or fellowship program.

Responsibilities

  • Overall leadership, administration, organization, and continuous improvement of the ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship Program.
  • Ensure compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements.
  • Develop and maintain an academically rigorous training environment.
  • Support fellow recruitment and development.
  • Promote excellence in patient care, education, quality, safety, research, and scholarly activity.
  • Collaborate with institutional leadership, faculty, fellows, and multidisciplinary teams to provide a comprehensive educational experience.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice in Gastroenterology (Advanced or General).
  • Participate in inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology services.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures consistent with specialty expertise.
