About The Position

Valent is hiring one of its first engineers to work directly with the founders on a platform for tracking industrial supply-chain provenance and regulatory requirements. The role is forward-deployed, combining work with customers on plant floors and supplier calls with software development. The engineer will own customer deployments end to end, from ingesting supplier documents and ERP data through building deployment-specific integrations and functionality, and will translate field learnings into the core product. The role includes building document and data pipelines, supplier-monitoring agents, regulatory logic, customer integrations, and tools for evaluation and review. The engineer will also help shape Valent’s architecture, engineering culture, and hiring as the team grows. Valent is backed by a16z Speedrun.

Requirements

At least 4 years of experience shipping production software.
Experience building with LLMs in production, including extraction, retrieval, agents, and evaluations.
Comfort working across the stack, including TypeScript, Python, Postgres, and cloud infrastructure.
Ability to talk with users and earn the trust of supply-chain VPs and quality engineers.
Strong focus on correctness, given that outputs are used in audits, tax filings, and defense contracts.
Ability to take ownership and move quickly without waiting for specifications.

Nice To Haves

Experience as an early engineer at a startup.
Experience in manufacturing, supply chain, defense, energy, or other regulated industries.
Forward-deployed, solutions, or implementation engineering experience.
Experience with document AI, OCR, or entity resolution at scale.
Experience with ERP data, including SAP, NetSuite, Oracle, Plex, or Epicor.

Responsibilities

Build document and data pipelines that turn supplier certificates, declarations, mill test reports, and bills of materials into structured, auditable provenance records.
Build agents that monitor supplier communications, detect upstream changes to materials, processes, and facilities, and recommend next steps.
Encode regulatory logic for FEOC, §45X domestic content, DFARS specialty metals and magnet provisions, and Buy American against real bills of materials.
Own customer deployments by scoping data, building integrations with ERPs, inboxes, and drives, and getting customers live quickly.
Build evaluation and review tooling so outputs trace back to their sources and withstand audits.
Shape the architecture, engineering culture, and hiring as the team grows.
