About The Position
The client is an early-stage team in San Francisco building an intelligence layer for construction using computer vision and LLM systems. The Founding Engineer will build this system, set its technical direction, select and combine models, and ship prototypes that users rely on. The role involves significant ownership, ambiguity, and hands-on work with messy data and edge cases, with equity of 0.20–1.20%.
Requirements
- Applied computer vision and machine learning experience in Python, including deep learning and object detection.
- Experience building something from 0 to 1, either as a founder or by joining early and taking ownership.
- Experience shipping AI systems to production, not just training models.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Empathy and honesty about what is and is not working.
- Comfort with ambiguity and hands-on work without an established playbook.

Responsibilities
- Own the intelligence layer end to end, including detection, understanding, and estimation over construction documents.
- Set the technical direction for applying computer vision, LLM, and AI systems; select, test, and combine models.
- Ship 0-to-1 prototypes quickly and improve them using real user feedback.
- Coordinate detection, segmentation, OCR, and LLM reasoning models into one coherent system.
- Handle messy data, unusual edge cases, and the lack of a clean pipeline or established playbook.
