Forward Deployed Engineer, AI Transformation -Senior Vice President
About The Position
Citi is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Forward Deployed Engineer to help lead its AI transformation. The role partners with business process owners and technology leaders to reimagine and re-engineer core business processes, define principled approaches to agentic solution design, and create reference solutions using artificial intelligence. The engineer identifies opportunities for AI-driven automation and helps deliver solutions by drawing on Citi’s AI capabilities, including its growing ecosystem of AI agents. The role bridges business needs and technical implementation, drives adoption of reference solutions across business contexts, and helps develop future experts to support the sustainability and scalability of Citi’s AI capabilities. It includes analyzing workflows, rapidly prototyping AI solutions, translating requirements between business users and engineering teams, tracking initiative outcomes, and supporting documentation, training, and adoption. The position is based in Irving, Texas, and follows a hybrid model with three days in the office and two days working remotely. Citi describes the role as a high-visibility position at the center of its AI strategy, with access to AI tools and learning and development opportunities.
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of experience in a hands-on technical role, such as software engineering, data science, or machine learning engineering.
- Deep, hands-on experience with large language models and AI agents.
- Knowledge of core supervised and unsupervised machine learning concepts, natural language processing, and data modeling.
- Ability to understand business challenges and translate them into technical requirements and solutions.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Proactive and analytical problem-solving approach, with a track record of delivering innovative solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree, university degree, or equivalent experience.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience in a forward-deployed, consulting, or client-facing technical role.
- Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms, such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, and their AI/ML services, such as SageMaker, Vertex AI, or Azure ML.
- Familiarity with data engineering principles, including ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and working with large datasets.
- Knowledge of a business domain such as payments, finance, or operations in financial services firms.
Responsibilities
- Work with business stakeholders to analyze business processes, workflows, and pain points, and identify and prioritize opportunities for AI impact.
- Design and rapidly prototype AI-powered solutions, including proof-of-concepts and, where appropriate, minimum viable products.
- Translate technical concepts and business needs between non-technical business users and core engineering teams to ensure requirements are understood and solutions are fit for purpose.
- Stay current with developments, tools, techniques, and best practices in machine learning, natural language processing, and generative AI.
- Define key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness and return on investment of AI initiatives.
- Help create documentation for AI-driven processes and provide training and support to business users to encourage successful adoption.
- Drive adoption of reference solutions across business contexts and apprentice future experts to support sustainable, scalable AI capabilities.
- Collaborate with business process owners and technology leaders to reimagine and re-engineer core business processes.
