We’re looking for a Forestry Superintendent - Indigenous Relations to join our Northwest Regional Woodlands Team in Slave Lake, or High Prairie, Alberta. This position will also support Tolko’s High Level Woodlands operations. Our Northwest Regional Woodlands and High Level Woodlands Teams operate Tolko's forest resources across Alberta, including timber harvesting, silviculture, and forest management and log yard activities. We are dedicated to sustaining these areas to the benefit of all who live and work there.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-10 years of related experience in a similar role.
  • Familiarity and good understanding of Indigenous cultures and history across Alberta.
  • Strong negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization and time management skills.
  • Proven experience with managing Indigenous relationships, preferably in a forestry context.
  • Ability to promote Tolko as a potential employer for Indigenous people.
  • Ability to lead and or participate in meetings with Indigenous partners and communities.
  • University degree or Technical Diploma in Forestry with an understanding of forestry planning and operations.
  • A strong understanding of Alberta forest management practices, government requirements and guidelines related to indigenous consultation and engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the engagement and fostering of relationships with several neighboring Indigenous communities for our Northwest Regional and High Level Woodlands Divisions.
  • Arrange consultation and engagement between Tolko and Indigenous Partners and communities and act as a mediator when necessary.
  • Provide support and guidance to Woodlands staff by advancing Indigenous community engagement, business development, training, and education.
  • Participate in the negotiation and implementation of agreements that contribute to successful and meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities.
  • Play an active role in corporate and other regional Indigenous Relations committees and community events, while acting as a key contact with various First Nation and Metis communities.
