About The Position

South Bow is seeking an experienced Senior Indigenous and Community Relations Advisor to support the delivery of Indigenous and community engagement across their pipeline and infrastructure portfolio. This role is critical to building and sustaining respectful, transparent, and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous groups and local communities along their asset footprint. The Advisor will work closely with internal teams, Indigenous groups, community stakeholders, regulators, contractors, and service providers to support consultation activities, community investment initiatives, and project and operational engagement—consistent with regulatory requirements, corporate values, and South Bow’s Indigenous Relations Policy.

Requirements

  • Post secondary education in a related field.
  • 8 years of experience in Indigenous and community relations, preferably within the energy, pipeline, or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous rights and regulatory consultation frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience working respectfully and effectively with Indigenous groups and non-Indigenous communities.
  • Excellent communication, relationship building, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel to communities and operational sites as required.
  • Valid authorization to travel to the United States.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to provide a driver’s abstract.
  • Legal authorization to work in the country in which the position is based with no restrictions.
  • Background screening.
  • Criminal and/or credit checks to comply with regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CRM systems or engagement tracking tools.
  • Experience working with the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) and Alberta Energy Regulator (AER).
  • Experience supporting Indigenous relations in the United States is an asset.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant federal, provincial, and state legislation and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Creation and execution of corporate Indigenous Relations strategies, translating strategic direction into practical engagement approaches across operations and projects.
  • Act as a key point of contact between South Bow and Indigenous groups and local communities for operational, maintenance, and project related activities.
  • Apply a principled and consistent approach to Indigenous engagement aligned with company policy and best practices.
  • Support Indigenous participation in contracting, employment, and economic development opportunities.
  • Build and maintain meaningful, trust-based relationships through a “boots on the ground” community presence.
  • Identify, assess, and support meaningful community investment initiatives and leverage funds into opportunities to spend time in community.
  • Provide input into the strategy for the corporate community investment program and participate on the community investment committee.
  • Support regulatory applications and consultation programs to meet adequacy requirements and best practices.
  • Ensure commitments made to communities are accurately tracked, documented, and fulfilled.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate Indigenous and community perspectives into operations and projects.
  • Work with external service providers and consultants to support program and project deliverables.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Indigenous and community relations processes.
  • Participate as a member of the regulatory on call and incident management team, including after-hours support as required.
  • Support Emergency Preparedness and Response training and exercises, including coordination with and participation of Indigenous communities where appropriate.
