About The Position

The Associate Director of Indigenous Relations is responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with Indigenous organizations and governments. The Associate Director will play a critical role in extending the efforts of the IRI and will advance development, delivery, and promotion of work with internal and external stakeholders towards this goal. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 Years Related Experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage as well as collaborate in complex projects and teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous people and governance.
  • Strong knowledge of the distinct Indigenous nations in Quebec and surrounding regions.
  • Knowledge of the educational aspirations of Indigenous nations and peoples in Canada.
  • Strong relationship management skills with sensitivity to unique social, political and economic situation of Indigenous peoples.
  • Familiarity with Quebec and Canadian labour market and government programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate coherently across varied audiences from different backgrounds.
  • A commitment to advancing Indigenous issues and promoting Indigenous excellence.
  • Adept at monitoring and managing the daily operations of multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • High degree of numeracy.
  • English and French proficiency (Level 4 English required).

  • Preference will be given to Indigenous individuals (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis).

Responsibilities

  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with Indigenous organizations and governments.
  • Developing and implementing the SCS Indigenous Relations Initiative Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborating with SCS Academic domains to provide customized training opportunities tailored to Indigenous communities, nations, governments, and organizations.
  • Setting priorities, negotiating terms, developing partnerships, preparing agreements, and creating program delivery timelines.
  • Managing and optimizing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing the administrative and financial activities of the Indigenous Relations Initiative, including fiscal planning and budget preparation.
  • Actively pursuing public and private funding opportunities.
  • Developing estimates, forecasts, and obtaining budget approvals.
  • Making recommendations on financial and human resources needs.
  • Managing the planning and implementation of approved initiatives and training projects.
  • Staying informed about stakeholders’ needs, funding programs, educational technologies, and developments in education, training, and professional development.
  • Representing the unit at events, committees, and working groups.
  • Stepping in for the Faculty Chair when unavailable, including presentations and meetings with Indigenous partners.
  • Overseeing and participating in the planning of large meetings, conferences, and special events.
  • Ensuring partnership objectives are met while considering internal resource capabilities and the best interests of SCS and IRI.
  • Developing, establishing, and managing a framework for portfolio management.
  • Providing status reporting on relationships, partners, and emerging priorities/opportunities.
  • Overseeing the implementation and execution of internal administrative plans, procedures, and processes, ensuring compliance with university policies.
  • Assessing academic and administrative workload and determining hiring needs for course lecturers, delivery timelines, and administrative support.
  • Directly supervising Indigenous Relations Initiative administrative staff.
