About The Position

Become a Forest Maintenance Worker with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and help protect Pennsylvania’s wild places! This position offers meaningful outdoor work that directly supports forest roads, trails and facilities. You will build confidence as you handle tools, equipment and new challenges. Your contributions will help ensure that visitors can enjoy the forest in a clean, safe and well-maintained setting. This position supports the upkeep and safety of State Forest roads, facilities, and recreation areas while assisting with fire protection activities. The work involves semi-skilled tasks that help preserve forest resources and maintain visitor access.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair buildings, equipment, and signs across State Forest properties
  • Clear culverts and ditches, maintain driving surfaces, and remove fallen trees
  • Repaint blazes, remove windfalls, and maintain water diversion controls on forest trails
  • Handle chainsaws, tractors, skid steers, and shop tools for maintenance tasks
  • Mow lawns, collect trash, clean restrooms, and repair picnic facilities
  • Support fire suppression, prevention, pre-suppression, and prescribed fire activities
