About The Position

The Food Services Assistant performs a variety of food-service tasks in preparing and serving food, cleaning up, and operating a school cafeteria. The position is based at Sun Valley Elementary in Peoria, Arizona, and is a nine-month position in the Food Service department. The Food Services Assistant reports to the Kitchen Manager.

Duties include food preparation and service, maintaining serving-line supplies, setting up dining areas, assisting cafeteria users, and cleaning and sanitizing kitchen and cafeteria spaces. The employee also provides backup assistance to others working in food preparation, service, cleanup, and kitchen and cafeteria maintenance. Duties listed are illustrative and may not represent every task performed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and six months of relevant food-service or closely related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Possess or obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Pass a background clearance check.
• Obtain a State of Arizona Food Handlers Permit within one month of employment and maintain it.
• Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, codes, and PUSD policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of customer-service principles.
• Ability to interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, codes, and PUSD policies and procedures.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, students, parents, the public, and others doing business with the school district.
• Skill in operating a personal computer and a variety of software applications.

Responsibilities

• Perform food preparation tasks, including cutting, chopping, measuring, and preparing foods and related items.
• Carry food trays to the serving line and monitor the quantity of food remaining.
• Retrieve, refill, and return food trays to the serving line.
• Set up tables and eating areas.
• Greet students and other cafeteria users and provide information or assistance.
• Clean and sanitize the kitchen, utensils, floors, work stations, tables, and other food-service and cafeteria areas.
• Provide backup and assistance with food preparation, serving, cleanup, and kitchen and cafeteria maintenance.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.
