About The Position

The Food Service team helps create a mountain experience our guests remember. Team members may work in a variety of positions throughout the season including Cook, Alcohol Server, Cashier, and Dining Room Attendant. Daily responsibilities may include but are not limited to: food preparation, counter service, cash handling, cleaning, and general guest service support. Responsibilities can change based on business levels, events, staffing, and operational needs, so flexibility and a willingness to jump in where needed are essential to success in this role. Our Food Service team generally does not hire folks for one specific position, we hire a team, placing folks into positions based on listed preferences, experience, team needs, and other factors. Positions may shift through the season. If you are only interested in one position, that is OK! Just please let us know in your application. We are looking for people who enjoy working hard as part of a team, bring a positive attitude to fast-paced environments, and take pride in helping wherever needed to support both the guest experience and the Food Service team experience. Successful Food Service employees are dependable, adaptable, and comfortable moving between multiple tasks and work areas throughout a shift.

Requirements

  • Willingness to learn
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Successful completion of food service training by an authorized Mt. Baker Ski Area trainer
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, at times loud and crowded environment
  • Must be at least 14 years of age
  • Have or obtain upon employment, a valid Washington State Food Handlers Card
  • Bending, twisting, lifting and moving items throughout the day
  • Ability to lift and move 30 pounds (or more depending on task)
  • Standing and or sitting for long periods
  • Climbing and descending stairs
  • Shoveling and moving snow
  • Standing and walking on compact snow and ice
  • Perform repetitive tasks as necessary
  • Candidates must not be present on the National Sex Offender Registry to be eligible for hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties as trained for position assigned in Food Service (could include but not be limited to: Cook, Cashier, Dining Room Attendant, Alcohol Sever, Food Runner, and/or Supervisor)
  • Provide excellent, friendly, and respectful customer service
  • Have working knowledge of Mt. Baker Ski Area mountain policies and procedures, familiarity of ski area facilities and services available
  • Working knowledge of safe food handling practices
  • Create and participate in a positive and inclusive workplace
  • Opening and closing procedures
  • Accurate use of point of sale system, including cash handling
  • Reconciling daily sales (requires basic math)
  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Clear communication with customers, supervisors, and coworkers
  • Cleaning and stocking
  • Helping maintain security of food service product and areas
  • Safe food handling
  • Assisting in lodge operations including Ticket Office Sales and bussing duties
  • Cashiers may also serve as Baristas, Food Runners, or Alcohol Server. (Alcohol Server and other alcohol service personnel must have a valid MAST class 12 permit)
  • Preparing, and serving food
  • Following recipes, portions, and processes as trained
  • Good customer service
  • Cleaning the kitchen, food service areas, and dishes
  • Working around hot surfaces and in close quarters with others
  • Use of kitchen equipment as trained
  • Cleaning all food service areas including changing trashes, wiping tables, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and more
  • Washing dishes
  • Stocking condiment counters

Benefits

  • Starting rate begins at $17.13/hour plus tips, through a mandatory tip pool (approximately additional $4/hour worked) with increases for experience, merit, tenure and future WA State minimum wage adjustments possible.
