About The Position
The position prepares and serves a variety of food items according to assigned work instructions and menus, using food preparation utensils and machines. The job is onsite inside a jail or correctional facility. The posting also describes oversight of inmate labor and team members assisting with food service operations, and says the position reports to a Food Service Director. The employer offers training and career advancement opportunities, including a $250 bonus for completing the Rookie’s Fast Track Program within the first 60 days and a $500 new-hire bonus. The hourly wage is $16.00.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and/or equivalent experience.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Ability to lift, bend, push, kneel, walk, and stand for extended periods, including being on one’s feet for much of the scheduled shift.

Responsibilities
- Manage inmate labor and team members in the kitchen during food preparation and food service shifts.
- Serve food during planned meal schedules according to department procedures.
- Use kitchen utensils and equipment to cook food according to recipes.
- Use proper utensils to serve menu portions that meet clients’ nutritional needs.
- Train other food service workers.
- Promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates.
- Perform other responsibilities as determined by the employer’s needs.
