About The Position

The Food Service Worker performs a variety of food service tasks, including meal assembly and delivery, dishwashing, and cleaning metal ware. The position primarily supports the dish room. The work includes preparing and stocking workstations, assembling trays, delivering meals and supplies to patients and clinics, collecting used trays, and cleaning kitchen equipment and service ware. The role may also include preparing simple foods and maintaining delivery and pickup records.

Requirements

• Able to read and write English and perform basic math calculations.
• Able to walk and stand for long periods, up to 100% of the workday.
• Able to lift and push up to 50 pounds.
• Able to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 50% of work time.
• Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with staff, other department personnel, and patients.
• Able to work above the head and close to the ground; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and climbing are required.
• May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, blood, bodily fluids, and tissues.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Three to six months of on-the-job training or previous experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and clean the tray-line assembly area, including food items, silverware, dishes, napkins, salads, desserts, breads, and beverages.
• Stock workstations with food, non-food items, and equipment as needed.
• Work at tray-line assembly stations and use tray tickets to select the correct food items.
• Load trays onto delivery carts.
• Remove soiled serving trays from patient units and bus patient and customer serving trays.
• Operate elevators to deliver and pick up carts from patient-care units and outpatient clinics.
• Take food-service supplies to patient rooms and outpatient clinics as needed.
• Deliver meals to patients at their bedsides and respond to or resolve their needs, concerns, and requests.
• Use portable telephones to help ensure patients’ needs are met.
• Operate the mechanical dishwasher, clean equipment and kitchen areas, and unload food from delivery carts.
• Clean and sanitize metal ware, including cooking pots, pans, utensils, and serving ware.
• Prepare simple foods such as sandwiches and salads when asked.
• Maintain records such as tray delivery and pickup schedules.
