About The Position

The Food Service Specialist is a member of the food service team at UH Lakewood Medical Center. The role supports patients’ daily care by helping them choose meals, preparing and delivering trays, accommodating special requests and dietary needs, and bringing snacks and supplements between meals. The specialist also stocks units, assists with basic food preparation and service, and provides a friendly, caring presence to patients.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (as of August 1, 2019).
• Valid Food Handler’s Permit, or willingness to obtain one within 30 days.
• Basic math skills.
• Positive attitude and ability to get along with a variety of people.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move carts.
• Motor skills for bending, lifting, twisting, and reaching.
• Strong verbal communication skills for interacting with patients, nurses, and coworkers.
• Comfort using the phone.
• Kind and empathetic approach.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience in an institutional food service setting.
