About The Position

The Food Service Helper performs a range of duties involved in preparing and serving food. The role assists with food preparation, work-area and equipment cleaning, setting up and servicing food stations, and collecting garbage and trash. The helper serves customers and supports safe, sanitary, efficient food service. Responsibilities include preparing individual servings and a variety of foods according to recipes and portion-control standards; cleaning and organizing work areas, equipment, utensils, and service stations; operating commercial kitchen equipment; and ensuring food is properly prepared, stored, and served at appropriate temperatures. The helper follows food sanitation and handling protocols, customer instructions, and safety procedures. The role also provides customers with information about ingredients, availability, and pricing, and escalates concerns or complaints to management.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.
One year of experience in a commercial kitchen environment.
Food handler training certificate.
Completion of the provided training program.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to read and write.
Basic mathematical skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
Understanding of food allergies and modified diets.
Excellent people skills.
Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions and safety procedures.
Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
Knowledge of food-service line setup and temperature requirements.
Skill in cooking and preparing a variety of foods, and knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects, including objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Available to work shifts and extended hours, and flexibility to work various shifts.
Reports to work promptly and on time.
Maintains a well-groomed appearance appropriate for the Food Service Helper position.

Responsibilities

Rinse, peel, slice, and dice fruits and vegetables; weigh and measure ingredients.
Wrap, date-label, and store food items.
Prepare individual servings according to recipes and portion-control standards; season and prepare a variety of foods.
Clean and organize work areas, equipment, utensils, and service stations, maintaining sanitary conditions.
Set up and serve food, follow temperature and portion-control guidelines, and collect garbage and trash as appropriate.
Operate commercial kitchen equipment according to standards.
Follow food sanitation, food handling, safety, and customer instructions to ensure food is prepared and served appropriately.
Serve customers in a fast, efficient, and friendly manner.
Provide customers with information about food ingredients, availability, and pricing.
Escalate customer concerns and complaints to management.
Assist with supplies, equipment, services ordering, and inventory control.
Lead and train staff and/or students.
