About The Position

The Food Service Director leads the kitchen at Rowan County Jail, managing the kitchen team and budget and ensuring meals are safe, meet specifications, and are served on time. The role oversees daily meal production and service, inventory and vendor relationships, staffing and training, food safety, cleanliness, and audit-ready records. The position requires comfort working in a secure corrections environment and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Physical activity includes standing, lifting, and moving food supplies and equipment throughout the shift.

Requirements

• Comfort working in a secure corrections environment.
• Solid knowledge of food preparation, cooking, and food safety.
• Willingness to obtain food safety certification.
• Food service management experience; correctional setting experience is a plus.
• Working knowledge of nutrition and dietary guidelines.
• Leadership skills, including clear communication and people skills.
• Comfort standing, lifting, and moving food supplies and equipment throughout the shift.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
