About The Position

This is a part-time position at Kearney CNVH. The work involves preparing, seasoning, cooking, and portioning food for regular and modified diets according to menus and recipes. It also includes assisting with organization and management of food, preparing snacks, recognizing food quality, maintaining cleanliness of the work area and equipment, and operating various kitchen equipment safely. The role also involves assisting in training new hires and serving food to members, including portioning, temperature recording, and serving according to menu and dietary needs. Responsibilities extend to food conservation, proper storage of leftovers, stocking food supplies, and delivering food carts. Dishwashing duties are also included. The position requires knowledge of cooking techniques, food sanitation, kitchen equipment, safety practices, and facility standards.

Requirements

  • Coursework/training in food preparation and/or cooking and baking experience in a large scale food service operation.
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Knowledge of cooking techniques for meats, soups, salads and baked goods.
  • Knowledge of food sanitation practices.
  • Knowledge of the proper handling and processing of a variety of vegetables and fruits.
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Knowledge of kitchen safety practices.
  • Knowledge of facility standards and procedures for the cleaning of dishes, utensils, equipment and facilities.
  • Knowledge of facility food preparation schedules.
  • Knowledge of personal hygiene.
  • Knowledge of basic kitchen equipment supplies and utensils.
  • Knowledge of basic food stuffs such as fruits, vegetables, bakery goods, meats and poultry.
  • Knowledge of food preparation procedures for salads, sandwiches, short order items and other routinely prepared foods.
  • Knowledge of facility standards and procedures for the cleaning of dishes, utensils, equipment and facilities.
  • Knowledge of food sanitation and food preparation schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, season, cook and portion food such as sauces, soups, meats, salads, baked goods, vegetables for regular and modified diets according to menus and recipes.
  • Practice food conservation and proper storage or reuse of leftovers.
  • Assist with organization and management of the food.
  • Responsible for the preparation of snacks.
  • Recognize quality characteristics of food and uses standard preparation procedures and sanitary techniques for high quality food.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of work area and equipment and completing special cleaning assignments.
  • Responsible for cooking foods by using a grill, oven, steam equipment, mixer, blender, slicer, Robot Coupe, Blast Chiller, etc.
  • Know the safety factor of each piece of equipment and operate it accordingly.
  • Maintain equipment in sanitary proper working condition and report any equipment not in working order to a supervisor.
  • Assist in training of new hires.
  • Responsible for portioning and serving food for the Neighborhood Home Kitchen(s).
  • Assist in serving of members.
  • Understand the importance of production sheets for accuracy of foods and portion sizes served.
  • Know all modified diets and any combination of these diets.
  • Follow set procedures in portioning foods, temperature recording and serving food/beverages according to menu and member diet and food preferences.
  • Serve meals: portioning, temperature recording and serving food/beverages according to menu and member diet and food preferences.
  • May assist in the Fox Hole or other work areas.
  • Practices food conservation and proper storage of leftovers.
  • Responsible for assisting in stocks food supplies in member households.
  • Will be responsible for delivery of food carts to member units.
  • Operate automatic dish machine; scrape and prepare pots, pans and utensils for washing; wash, air dry pots, pans and utensils and return clean articles to storage area.
