About The Position

As a Food Service Assistant, you help create a welcoming dining experience for patients, visitors, and staff by preparing and serving meals, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and supporting daily food service operations. You provide customer service while helping ensure food quality and sanitation standards are met. The position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and reports to the Executive Chef, operating within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures. The schedule is Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 4:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., for 15 scheduled hours per week. The role is onsite at 30 Locust Street and is classified as a regular employee position. The stated pay range is $18.78 to $25.66 per hour.

Requirements

Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to operate a cash register.

Previous food preparation and service experience.

Responsibilities

Prepare and serve food, beverages, and snacks in cafeteria and patient service areas.
Provide friendly, professional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.
Assemble and deliver patient meal trays while ensuring dietary and quality standards are met.
Operate a cash register and process transactions accurately.
Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary food service, kitchen, and dining areas.
Follow food safety, infection prevention, and sanitation guidelines.
Restock supplies, rotate inventory, and notify leadership of shortages.
Operate dishwashing equipment and maintain kitchen equipment according to established procedures.
Support catering services, tray line operations, and other department activities as needed.
Collaborate with Nutrition Services and clinical teams to support an exceptional patient experience.
