About The Position

The Food Service Assistant supports meal preparation and service for patients at Harrington Park Health & Rehab. The role assists the cook with meals, snacks, desserts, salads, and other dishes; prepares between-meal nourishments; serves food and beverages; and follows patient diet orders, including NPO orders and approved substitutions. The assistant also maintains kitchen cleanliness, operates and cleans food-service equipment, follows infection-control and food-storage procedures, monitors and records temperatures and chemical levels, and checks and puts away stock. This is a full-time day/evening position with a starting pay of $15.16 per hour and weekly pay. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. The minimum qualification is a high school diploma or equivalent, preferred. The role requires effective communication and the ability to read instructions, write routine reports, perform basic arithmetic, follow written or oral directions, and use Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or associates.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions and address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
Ability to meet the described physical demands, with reasonable accommodations available where applicable.

Responsibilities

Assist the cook in preparing meals, desserts, snacks, salads, and other dishes.
Carry trays to patients and serve meals and beverages in patient rooms and dining areas.
Prepare between-meal nourishments, including sandwiches, and serve nourishments according to procedures.
Set up the tray line and perform tray-line service; follow diet and NPO orders, offer and record menu substitutions, and follow procedures for associate meals.
Clean dining tables and kitchen work areas after meals and at the end of the shift, including sweeping and mopping.
Remove kitchen garbage and hose out garbage containers.
Scrape and wash dishes, pots, and pans; operate the dish machine and garbage disposal.
Clean kitchen equipment, including carts, tables, counters, ice machine, buckets, blender, mixer, meat slicer, freezer, refrigerator, stove, oven, steamer, dish machine, and steam table.
Operate the mixer, blender, meat slicer, steamer, coffee and tea maker, and other food-service equipment as assigned.
Record freezer and walk-in refrigerator temperatures and check and record water temperatures.
Check dishwasher sanitizer with sanitizer strips, monitor chemical levels, and replace chemicals when needed.
Check stock, store supplies and cleaning materials appropriately, and properly store leftovers and opened food.
Follow standardized recipes and use serving equipment such as ladles, spoons, and scoops.
Comply with infection-control policies in the work area.
Communicate professionally and warmly with associates, patients, family members, and visitors; respond helpfully to concerns and questions.
Contribute to committees, workgroups, project management, and other collaborative efforts, and perform other duties as necessary to support the System.
