About The Position

The Food Prep position prepares and serves quality food and beverages, maintains food preparation areas and display cases, and supports merchandising, inventory, customer service, and store cleanliness. The role ensures deliveries are accurately checked in, merchandise is priced and stocked according to schematics, food items are rotated and monitored for freshness, and displays are assembled, dated, and price marked. It also includes assisting with training new associates when needed and keeping the work area and equipment clean, sanitary, safe, and in good working order.

The position provides courteous and attentive customer service, helps resolve routine customer concerns, and contributes to cooperative teamwork and store operations. The employee attends job-related meetings, follows company policies and appearance standards, works with minimal supervision, and performs other duties as assigned by the Store Manager. Work is primarily indoors, with some outdoor cleaning tasks and occasional work in walk-in coolers or freezers.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to work as scheduled and arrive to work on time.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
• Ability to perform essential duties and physical functions and to work in the described conditions.
• Ability to work alone.
• Ability to grasp, reach, and manipulate objects with hands throughout the shift, requiring eye-hand coordination.
• Ability to push or pull with the arms using up to 20 pounds of force.
• Ability to reach overhead, bend and twist at the waist, stoop, kneel, squat, push, and pull.
• Ability to communicate orally and operate a cash register and/or computer keyboard.
• Ability to stand and/or walk for an entire shift.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds from ground to overhead and up to 50 pounds from ground to waist.
• Ability to work in cold or warm temperature extremes, including occasional work in a walk-in cooler or freezer and outdoors.
• Ability to tolerate occasional noise.
• May be required to climb a ladder to store or retrieve materials or place or remove signs.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in retail sales preferred.
• Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure grocery deliveries are accurate, stocked, attractively displayed, and priced correctly in accordance with company guidelines.
• Complete build-to’s for ordering or purchasing merchandise.
• Check in deliveries, price items, stock merchandise according to schematics, and maintain inventory.
• Validate deliveries against invoices and review discrepancies with the Store Manager; report outdated merchandise to the Store Manager.
• Assemble, date, and price-mark in-store displays.
• Rotate food items and monitor quality and freshness to protect customers from illness.
• Monitor and maintain food preparation areas and display cases.
• Assist with training new associates when necessary, emphasizing excellent customer service.
• Monitor and organize inventory to help prevent items from being out of stock.
• Provide prompt, courteous, friendly, and attentive customer service; greet customers and thank them as they leave.
• Resolve or assist with routine customer concerns within established guidelines.
• Prepare and serve quality food and beverages to meet customer needs.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Sweep and mop or otherwise clean floors; dust or wash windows, counters, displays, store areas, and bathrooms; and remove trash, litter, or debris.
• Inspect store facilities and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and proper working order.
• Clean, sanitize, and maintain food service equipment.
• Attend job-related meetings, which may require irregular hours.
• Maintain intradepartmental workflow and foster cooperation; comply with company policies and procedures.
• Contribute to team efforts by completing related work and perform duties with minimal supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
• Arrive to work on time and follow the dress and appearance code.
